Igby Goes Down (2002)
If I had to name the most annoying pretentious, angst-filled, trying-too-hard piece of crap movie I’ve seen in this lifetime it would definitely be this one. It is reminiscent of Catcher in the Rye’s plot, only that Keiran Culkin is no Holden Caufield and that the plot and writing comes off as self-indulgent and yes did I already mention pretentious? It felt like the film’s screenwriters wanted to tell its audience how smart they were while leaving out any real wit and humor with forced quirkiness.
There was nothing thought-provoking or earth shattering, just all this fake mind-boggling social commentaries on how people have their own problems, yada yada, that the pretension in the world is just overwhelming crap crap crap hey it’s Rebel Without a Cause meshed with a terribly bad coming of age film that presumes to learn something about life, whatever it may be, but our protagonist Igby doesn’t seem to learn anything and that’s why this movie goes down, way way way down
