Wild Tigers I Have Known (2006): 3/5

Wild Tigers I Have Known is a coming of age story about awkward and soft-spoken Logan discovering his true sexuality. He strikes a friendship with Rodeo Walker, one of the cool kids in school. ‘Wild Tigers’ is about emotions; about wishing to be someone else.

Sometimes when a film tries too hard to be artsy and deep, it gets in the way of the narrative. Sometimes, throwing in random images and incessantly pushing such imagery to reiterate that it’s all coming from the protagonist’s perspective can get annoying. Sometimes it’s quite ineffective to keep the viewer interested when the film looks something like a 90 minute music video.

Sometimes beauty shots aren’t so beautiful. Sometimes and a lot of times, I don’t understand it.

But then, sometimes there’s also beauty in ambiguity.

PS: Gus Van Sant is one of this film’s executive producers. ‘Doh!
